Common questions

Can I tint my front windows in New Jersey?

Not without a medical exemption. NJ law (N.J.S.A. 39:3-75) does not allow aftermarket film on the front side windows or the windshield. Drivers with a qualifying condition can apply to the NJ MVC for an exemption.

How dark can rear windows be in NJ?

Any darkness — 5% limo tint is legal on rear side windows and the back glass. If the back glass is tinted, the car needs both outside mirrors, which almost every car already has.

What about out-of-state or factory tint?

Factory privacy glass on SUVs and trucks is legal. Cars registered in another state follow that state's rules. If you are moving to NJ, ask us before tinting the fronts.

How do I get a NJ tint medical exemption?

Your physician completes the NJ MVC medical exemption form for a qualifying light-sensitivity condition; the MVC reviews it and issues the exemption, which you keep in the vehicle. Once approved, we can tint the front windows to the shade your exemption allows.

Will tint fail NJ inspection?

NJ inspections focus on emissions for most passenger cars, but front-window film is still a ticketable equipment violation on the road. We explain the rules before every install so you can decide.
